IDMR / Process / 3D Modelling
Step 03 · 3D & Refinement

Where the design becomes buildable.

Rhinoceros for free-form surfacing. Alias for OEM-grade class-A. SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and Creo when the engineering pipeline demands it. Our CAD toolchain is built to match your team’s.

Stage 03 · From sketch to surface

Where the design becomes buildable.

This is where the studio spends most of its time. The 2D concept becomes a precision 3D surface model — every curve continuous, every panel buildable, every measurement exact. Surface quality determines everything downstream: rendering, prototyping, manufacturing.

The studio works in Rhinoceros for modelling, with Light Tracer and Unreal Engine for rendering and visualisation. This is the toolchain we offer and the one we use every day.

Throughout this stage, you receive review packages at every gate. No surprises at handover.

RHINOCEROS · WIREFRAME
Rhinoceros viewport — automotive surface construction
Construction integrity Surface continuity, panel splits, and tangency checks visualised directly in the Rhino viewport — the language we use to communicate with engineering teams.
RHINOCEROS · PERSPECTIVE
Rhinoceros viewport — concept exploration
Form exploration Early surface studies kept open and editable — every curve a control point we can pull on through review cycles.
RHINOCEROS · DETAIL
Rhinoceros viewport — refined surface model
Refined surfaces Class-A surface treatment with Zebra-stripe verification, hand-tuned for production tolerance and visual continuity.
RHINOCEROS · ASSEMBLY
Rhinoceros viewport — full assembly view
Assembly & integration Multi-component models with parametric relationships preserved — handed off as STEP, IGES, Parasolid, or native Rhino files.
What we offer

One modelling environment. Mastered.

Modelling is where the design becomes geometry. We work in one environment and we work in it deeply.

MODEL
Rhinoceros
Our modelling environment for free-form surfacing, automotive concepts, industrial design, and product work. Every project starts and ends here.
RHINO
Working knowledge

Also experienced in your team's tools.

Across past projects we've worked alongside engineering teams running other CAD environments. The studio doesn't currently hold active licenses for the tools below — but we have hands-on working knowledge from past roles, which means we can read the files, hand off cleanly, and have informed conversations with engineers using them. For ongoing projects requiring these tools, the client typically provides the seat.

The two examples below are from past projects in Alias Surface Studio and SolidWorks. We also have working knowledge of Siemens NX and PTC Creo, where most of the value is in clean translation in and out of the active Rhino model. For OEM-grade automotive visualisation we have used Autodesk VRED, and for engineering data exchange in larger pipelines, Siemens Teamcenter (PLM).

ALIAS · SURFACE STUDIO
Alias Surface Studio model
Alias Surface Studio Class-A surfacing experience for OEM-grade automotive briefs and projects requiring downstream production data.
SOLIDWORKS · PARAMETRIC
SolidWorks model
SolidWorks Parametric, history-based modelling for industrial machinery, brackets, fixtures, and assemblies that need engineering rigor.
OEM pipelines

For automotive and aerospace OEMs, beyond CAD.

RENDER · OEM-grade
Autodesk VRED
Real-time visualisation tool used by automotive OEMs for design reviews and class-A material development. Used on past automotive concept work alongside Alias.
PLM · Engineering data
Siemens Teamcenter
Product lifecycle management system used in major OEM pipelines. Familiar with check-in/check-out workflows, version control, and structured BOM exchange.
Deliverables & handover

Files your team can actually open.

The 3D model is only useful if your engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing partners can work with it. Every project closes with a delivery package tailored to the downstream pipeline.

Solid formats — STEP, IGES, Parasolid, native Rhino — for engineering teams.

Mesh formats — OBJ, STL, FBX — for prototyping bureaus, real-time engines, and game-engine pipelines.

Visualisation packages — fully built scenes in Light Tracer or Unreal Engine, with material libraries that survive handoff to your in-house render team.
